Limitations on the data:
NYOpenGovernment consolidated information from a variety of existing public
disclosure databases and made it available on this website. The website includes
campaign finance records, lobbying disclosures, state contracts, charity
registration forms, legislative member items, information on legislative
proposals, and the registry of corporate and business entity names. The data
obtained from the relevant state agencies was adapted, as best as was possible,
to work with each other.
NYOpenGovernment staff have developed a system to organize and display this
data in a way that allows users to easily browse through Elected Officials and
their relevant campaign finance records, member items requested, contracts
awarded or sponsored legislation. Additionally, there are options to search all
of the databases and a county by county breakdown of member items.
The campaign finance records on this site currently reflect disclosure reports
filed since 2006. The lobbying records reflect disclosures filed since 2007. The
listing of state contracts only shows new contracts that have been approved by
the Office of State Comptroller since the start of 2006. The member items listed
are those that were approved since the New York State Budget for the 2007-2008
fiscal year. The legislation listed on the site is since 2007. The Corporation
and Business Entity Database includes business and not for profit corporations,
limited partnerships, limited liability companies and limited liability
partnerships, as well as other miscellaneous businesses that have registered or
amended their registrations since 2006.
Indemnification
User agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless, the Attorney
General's NYOpenGovernment, its contributors, any entity jointly created by
them, their respective affiliates and their respective directors, officers,
employees, and agents from and against all claims and expenses, including
attorney's fees, arising out of the use of the on-line service by user in
reference to any claim however caused and on any theory of liability, whether in
contract, strict liability, or tort (including negligence).
The New York State Board Of Elections
The majority of financial disclosure statements filed at the State Board are
entered into the database directly from e-mail or diskette filings submitted by
committee treasurers or candidates. For those who file hard copies, the
information contained in paper filings will be entered into the database exactly
as it appears on the forms. Because database searches retrieve information
exactly the way it is reported and then entered into the database, search
results may be inaccurate and/or incomplete. This will occur, for example, if
filers do not adhere to the required format, do not use the proper codes,
misspell words or leave items blank. Although the State Board carefully reviews
disclosure reports and requires treasurers to submit amended reports as needed,
there will necessarily be delays before the review process is completed and the
information in the database is corrected.

Department of State
The Corporation and Business Entity Database includes business and not for
profit corporations, limited partnerships, limited liability companies and
limited liability partnerships, as well as other miscellaneous businesses.
Please note that the database does not include corporate or other business
entity assumed names filed pursuant to General Business Law, ยง130.
Assumed name filings are filed and maintained by the Division of Corporations
for corporations, limited liability companies and limited partnerships. Although
maintained by the Division of Corporations, searches of records of assumed names
used by corporations, limited liability companies and limited partnerships must
be made by a written, faxed or e-mail request to the Division. All other
entities such as general partnerships, sole proprietorships and limited
liability partnerships file an assumed name certificate directly with the county
clerk in each county in which the entity conducts or transacts business. Every
effort has been made to ensure that the information contained on this site is up
to date and accurate. As the Department relies upon information provided to it,
the information's completeness or accuracy cannot be guaranteed.
